Thrilling Season Opener at the Romanian Championship: Crucial Points in the Race for World Championship Qualification

The new season of the Romanian Championship kicked off this weekend with a dramatic and highly competitive opening round. Players competed in two disciplines – sectorball and the twelve-touch category – with valuable ranking points at stake. The results in both events count toward qualification for the upcoming X. ITFC World Championship – World Table Football Festival 2026, to be held in October in Budapest.

With World Championship spots on the line, the pressure was evident from the very first match.

Surprises in Sectorball

The opening day featured the sectorball competition, played in two groups. Already in the group stage, expectations were turned upside down. In one group, Incze István delivered an impressive performance to secure first place, while in the other group Marschal proved to be the dominant force.

These unexpected results set the stage for an exciting final phase.

In the end, the podium was claimed by Pákai György, Moldován Károly, and Varga Ervin. Based on their overall performance, they currently stand out as the strongest players in the Romanian field. Their consistency, tactical discipline, and high-level execution clearly separated them from the rest of the competition.

Intense Battle in the Twelve-Touch Discipline

On the second day, attention shifted to the twelve-touch category, played in a full round-robin format. This demanding system tested both the physical endurance and mental focus of the participants, as every competitor faced all opponents.

A leading quartet soon emerged from the field. Varga Ervin, Bajkó Mihály, and Marschal István delivered particularly outstanding performances, consistently collecting crucial points. While the final ranking was influenced not only by head-to-head results but also by overall consistency, this trio ultimately proved to be the most successful in the discipline.

Next Stop: Miercurea Ciuc

The Romanian Championship continues in May with the next round in Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda), where an international field of players is expected to compete. This event will represent the final opportunity for athletes to secure qualification points and earn a place in the national squad for October’s World Championship in Budapest.

The season has begun with intensity and unpredictability, and based on the weekend’s results, a fierce battle lies ahead for the right to compete on the world stage. The road to the World Championship is well underway – and every point now carries decisive importance.
