30 Years of Table Football Passion: Osona Club Honors Its Roots and Embraces the Future
Centelles, Catalonia – On January 10th, the historic town of Centelles became the setting for a special milestone in international table football. Club Futbol Botons Osona (CFBO) celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of passion, community, and sporting excellence in a discipline that has grown from humble street origins into an officially recognized sport.
A Tribute to History, Family, and Identity
The anniversary celebrations began with a moving morning ceremony at the newly restored Casa Pujol, where emotion and remembrance played a central role. CFBO’s current president, Adrià Garriga, reflected on both the club’s journey and his own personal connection to the sport:
“I grew up playing Futbol Botons, and I’ve managed to turn that childhood game into a way of life.”
Garriga also paid heartfelt tribute to his father, Isidor “Isi” Garriga, one of the club’s founders, who tragically passed away when Adrià was only three years old. In recognition of his legacy, the afternoon competition was named the 1st Isi Garriga Doubles Tournament, symbolically uniting the club’s past and present generations.
From Street Buttons to World Champions
Veteran member Pep Calm recalled the modest beginnings of Futbol Botons:
“It’s a game born in the post-war era. You either played marbles or made games with whatever you could find. The first buttons came from our grandmothers’ coats – the bigger, the better.”
Founded in 1995, CFBO has steadily evolved into a reference point for the sport in Catalonia. Today, the club counts 25 active members, organizes its own internal league, runs the Copa Som Esport, and hosts emblematic tournaments such as the Aplec de Balenyà Cup.
The club’s sporting success was highlighted by the mayor of Centelles, who recalled that Adrià Garriga became World Champion in Brazil in 2022, underlining CFBO’s ability to combine grassroots values with elite-level competition.
The Anniversary Tournament: Drama and Glory
The afternoon program featured a special doubles tournament, with 14 pairs competing through intense group stages before a high-level final between the two group winners. The decisive match delivered excitement and quality worthy of the occasion.
Final standings – 1st Isi Garriga Doubles Tournament:
- Champions: TOLORDERA – Domènec Gombau (Vila de Toló) & Jordi Roca (Batman)
- Runners-up: IAIA ROMANA – Adrià Garriga (Qalaiäia) & Martí Roma (ROMA)
Looking to the Future
Beyond celebration, the anniversary also marked a turning point. CFBO is currently transitioning toward a sports federation model, with the objective of unifying rules, strengthening organizational structures, and deepening cooperation with clubs across Catalonia and internationally.
As Adrià Garriga concluded:
“We’re a family that wants to keep growing. We must walk this path together to keep building, step by step.”
Thirty years on, Club Futbol Botons Osona stands as a powerful example of how tradition, community, and ambition can shape the future of table football.
Salut i botons! 🫂
